Under Siege

It’s back to the action aisle for Lee and Dan!

Since the boys have featured Jean Claude Van Damme punching out a snake in Hard Target we all thought it only fair that Steven Seagal get a run on the podcast and when asked the office could only think of Under Siege 2 so they went with the lessor known Under Siege.

So does Seagal serve up a superior action film?

    First!

    Sorry, I couldn’t help myself :-)

    • Lee

      I secretly appreciate it.

Don’t tell Dan, he only likes it when people say third.

Yet another great epidsode Gents, I’m now keeping a very keen eye out for the new Avatar series.

I haven’t Under Siege since I was a teenager. I loved it and I had no idea those breasts were fake. In fact, to my 15-year-old eyes I thought they were awsome!

I usually agree with your join opinions on films so I think I’ll leave this one alone, as to not ruin the memories my young mind formed.

Great work on Season 3 and I’ll now wait impatiently for Season 4.

I have only ever seen Under Siege once, it was ok but never had an urge to re-watch it again. I used to like some of Segal’s earlier films but I think Under Siege was the beginning of the end maybe. having said that he still keeps making movies.

    My fave Steven Segal quote:

“One thought he was invincible… the other thought he could fly. They were both wrong” – Marked for Death.

Seasons 1 and 4 of “24” are my favourites. I thought the worst season is a toss-up between Season 3 and Season 5…

I completely agree that Steven Seagal is not a charismatic, or impressive, action hero. I find that each film has one memorable fight scene that overshadows the entire film. An example of this is the stopping the knife with his teeth scene. Still, I found that Under Siege was one of his better films…which is not really saying much. Of the “decent” Seagal films I would rank them:

    Above the Law
    Under Siege
    Executive Decisions – great cameo

I would include Marked for Death (personal favourite) and On Deadly Ground (which features Michael Caine!) in the “so bad that it is almost good” category. Marked for Death is hilariously bad. The film features a voodoo loving villain who happens to wear spandex bicycle shorts. On Deadly Ground is supposed to have a “save the environment” message, yet Segal blows up an oil refinery at the end! Which I assume will only damage the environment even worse than before.

To be honest I’m not sure I’ve seen any Seagal movies other than under siege 1 & 2 (and even then I can’t remember a thing about number 2).

He’s just not impressive, and to be honest I struggle to understand how he’s had much of a career at all.

Hey! Season 5 is by far the best 24 season especially if seen first!!!

      • Lee

We started at Season Four which was a pretty strong starting point – Season 1′s ending is the best though

The best seagal film by far is out for justice, fricking love that film :-) ,he’s also quite funny in machete.

as for under siege its the 1st 15 film i managed to get into the cinema when i was 12 so i have a soft spot for it. not seen it for a number of years though so i think i may track it down.

Whichever Seagal flick is the one with Kelly LeBrock is by far the best one. It’s so memorable that I can’t even remember its name! The one where he’s in a coma or whatever and then has to get himself back into shape after a daring hospital escape. Must be Hard to Kill.

Wasn’t Under Siege the first one to break his “three-word title” streak? They couldn’t have called it “Under the Siege” or something, just for us?

Erika Eleniak’s breasts are indeed awesome. Or were. Mmmm, cake.

I’m scared for the Star Trek series. I’d be much less scared if you guys took them on two at a time. It’ll be fun for awhile, but by the time we get to 5 or so, I think the magic will run out. Though I did see number 6 and quite liked it once upon a time. Still have yet to see 8-10 and I don’t plan to any time soon…

You’re thinking of Weird Science – and it wasn’t Seagal, it was Anthony Michael Hall, although I can see how you’d get the two mixed up.

re: the Star Trek season – how do you think I feel!!

We may end up breaking the episodes up a bit – in fact we’re already doing that and we’ve only watched one so far. Plus we’re lumping 2 & 3 together. We’ll see how it goes.

So that explains the Footloose comment I saw earlier. Was wondering what that was about.

    • Dan

Hey, a man can cut Footloose if he feels like it man.

  • http://manilovefilms.com Dylan

Tell the truth – you just got back from doing some angry gymnastics inside an abandoned warehouse, didn’t you?

    • Dan

Damn, there’s always someone watching you in this town!

Fortunately I’m pretty sure that no one saw Lee and I practicing our Dirty Dancing routine in that lake the other day.
