The Three Musketeers

This week Lee and I are watching the 1993 film The Three Musketeers staring Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt, Chris O’Donnell, Tim Curry and Rebecca DeMornay.

To be honest I’ve only just finished editing the podcast and I still can’t remember what we talked about. I’m pretty sure that we were unpleasant about Chris O’Donnel, showed our ignorance of classic French Literature, and spent some time discussing Lego Batman. Something like that anyway.

Lee is far better at writing these show notes, which is annoying as he doesn’t even bother listening to the podcast. Unfortunately due to my general slackness I ended up editing the episode right at the last minute, so as punishment it’s down to me to write the accompanying post.

I’m the bloody Igor of this partnership. It’s a disgrace. “All for one” my arse.

Anyway – I do remember that the marvelous Jeff from Caddickisms did a stirling job of a Three of Best for us on this episode. Jeff’s also recently jumped on twitter, so you should all go follow him @Caddickisms

Here we go:

No podcast next week as we take our regular mid-season break. But we’ll be back the week after with Caddyshack.

Haven’t heard the episode yet. I just wanted to be the first to leave a comment ;-)

      Mission accomplished.

    Oliver Platt != brat packer

My swashbuckling years started at 8 and lasted until …. well… I’m sure it’ll fade sometime soon. I think that overrode my goth and post-apocalyptic phases. Hopefully I can leave them behind altogether.

3 of the best this week was incredible! A fine example of film analysis.

Dan, my jaw is on the floor that you haven’t seen Caddyshack before. I suspect you may be right about having had to see it when you’re younger, but I hope not.

Oh… and say the word if you want to be on my podcast. I’ve got room in the schedule.

Thanks for your Platt support man, most appreciated. And anytime for TITBBASHERDFG or whatever it’s called.

Ah, Dan, unfortunately your geek-fu has failed you. The exclamation point there is a “not” qualifier… so my Platt support is more on Lee’s side of the aisle.

        • Lee

okay the absolute weirdest thing ever is that I had to use the not qualifier when working on the site code and to test came to this page where you mention that exact bit of code!?!?

        • http://www.facebook.com/dghughes28 Dan Hughes

That’s not geek fu – that’s nerd fu. And you are welcome to it :)

If you guys don’t stop reading that Starfleet manual, I am going to dress you in red shirts and beam you down to the planet’s surface.

    • http://www.facebook.com/dghughes28 Dan Hughes

      Harsh, but fair.

The segment is in the next podcast, but probably not the one after (oooo forshaddowing….)

Oh man, after this episode I have now officially listened to every one of your episodes. What do I do with my life now? How will I cope? What will I listen to at work to distract me from actually working?

What do you guys listen to? Podcasters are usually the best people to get podcast recomendations from…

As for this movie… I know I watched this, but all I can remember is not being all that impressed with it… I was only 10 though.

To be brutally honest, the federation manuel was really boring this time. Maybe you need to stick with the dangerous flora and fauna sections? Those were working for you last time. Or something involving Klingons maybe?

      We need more Mugatu.

Mugatu can’t play golf. They probably could, but they lack the patience.

      • Lee

I’m really tempted to do a fact of the week featuring the Mugatu

    • http://www.facebook.com/dghughes28 Dan Hughes

You’ve listened to them all? I think there is a psychiatric diagnosis for that actually. I’ll dig out my old text books and let you know.

Here’s what I’m listening to currently podcast wise:

      Aussie Geek Podcast
      The best damn nerd show
      Casta La Vista

  • SG-3

Still enjoying Starfleet manual WAY more than Wonderwoman! Thanks for the show guys!

    • http://www.facebook.com/dghughes28 Dan Hughes

You are a lone voice in the wilderness.

      • SG-3

Oh, if you only knew how much the Wonderwoman segment messed with my meds! :)

Mind you, to put it into perspective, I enjoyed the old Ebay segment more than I enjoy the Starfleet segment – and that’s coming from someone who owns laminated A0 blueprints of the deck plans of both the Enterprise A and a Klingon Battlecruiser!

I guess there is no pleasing some of your sad, sad listeners! :)

Woohoo – podcast shout-out (that’d be the LAMBcast, and Dan is biased because he’s featured on the next episode – due Saturday – but that’s fine by me ;) )! Anyway, thanks for that, Dan.

As an avid podcast listener, I’d suggest Destroy All Movies for listeners of this show. Very different, yet somewhat similar, too.

Anyway, fun show despite my not having seen Three Muskets. I’m baffled every time I hear about a fourth musketeers. Can you tell I haven’t read the books? The trailer for the new film confounds me every time. I keep thinking that the Musketeers are like Sith in that there must have to be three of them and that obviously one dies or retires or something near the end.

Oliver Platt a Brat Packer? Thanks to Wikipedia for setting you straight, Dan.

    • Dan

The LAMBcast will get an even bigger plug when it comes out. I’m nothing if not a narcissist. To be honest I think the LAMBcast gets a mention in the Caddyshack podcast too (although I may be wrong – it’s ages since we recorded it).

The Musketeers are actually an army unit, so there are quite a few. We just get to hear about three of them.

(I still maintain Oliver Platt is a little bit of a Bratt Packer)
