  • Happy New Year MidMoClub, and welcome back! I’ve missed you (I’m gonna stop it there before it gets too awkward).

    • Lee

Well played, three more seconds and it would have been awkward.

      • I dunno – I’m feeling pretty awkward.

  • Phil

I liked Batman Begins slightly better too. I liked the adventure aspect of and and the ninjas. Dark Knight was great but was too serious and the third act starts to drag out, especially the bombs on the ferry scenes.

    • Lee

The third act in Dark Knight does indeed drag which I don’t think Batman Begins suffers from despite being an origin film.

    • They would have been far better off putting bombs on buses. THATS how to make good movies damnit!

    • Yeah, the ferry scenes could have been more precise.

I really liked Gary Oldman in this, more so than Batman Begins. I’m not a big Batman fan, so I don’t know much about Commissioner Gordon, but I’d like to think he thinks and acts exactly the way Gary played him.

  • Phil

Liam Neeson has become our modern day cinema bad ass, him versus wolves is genius…

    • Lee

Should have known considering he was in a Dirty Harry film AND Darkman.

      • Phil

yeah too bad its the weakest Dirty Harry film but Darkman I remember fondly. Although I haven’t seen that in over a decade.

    • Agreed. I thought Taken was amazing, especially the phone scene where he’s talking to the kidnappers.

  • Another great review guys, and I like the introduction of review movie trailers.

I saw Star Trek Nemesis a few years ago and found it quite pedestrian, even with the death of Data. I’m really keen to hear what you think of Star Trek now because I thought is was really enjoyable, especially how Kirk was portrayed (Eric Bana was pretty good too).

    • Lee

I found myself comparing the two villains, Nero and Shinzon and despite all the criticism levelled at Nero he is still a stronger villain with more motivation.

      • Since Data was connected to the ship’s computer, you would think that at some point, a lot of his consciousness ended up in the databanks.

I don’t see why they couldn’t rebuild him… faster. Stronger. Better.

        • Lee

I’m surprised they don’t just use a transporter buffer copy of him to resurrect – like a save game ;)

  • Oh wait…I’m up to date. I now have to wait for your coverage on JJ’s Trek.

I’m a new listener and have been laughing my way through the work day since finding your ‘cast. This pause in the Star Trek podcasts will have to serve as a metaphor for the 7 years between Nemesis and Star Trek (09)

Happy New Year and thanks for the fun show!

    • Thanks man, that’s great to hear. Especially as you aren’t asking for any sort of financial compensation for having to sit though all those hours of listening to Lee.

      • Well I didn’t want to introduce myself with that, but…

  • Kelly

I was super excited to see the Hobbit trailer……can not wait, too bad I have to wait til December.

I like Bat Begins better too. I really don’t like Maggie as Rachel…….Ledger was awesome in the DarkKnight, but I still think he was better in Brokeback Mountain.

Have any of you read the Hunger Games trilogy? I saw the trailer for that, I just finished the books, not sure how I feel about the trailer as of yet. I hope it does well enough to get all three books made into movies, cause I think the 3rd would be an awesome movie.

Uh as for the movie, Nemesis is by far my least favorite Trek movie(wait, wait, I forgot about the Motion Picture, I fastforwarded thru half of it and it was still boring).

Star Trek is the best of all the movies, so doubt. I will rewatch with you guys, I’ve only seen it a dozen or more times…..lol. I will try an refrain from making any girly comments about Mr. Urban…..

    • Phil

Actually I thought Nemesis was a slight improvement over Insurrection which I would consider the worst. Motion Picture is just painfully dull in spots.

Hmm is Star Trek the best? maybe close second to Wrath of Kahn for me.

    • I’ve heard a lot about the hunger games books recently. The concept sort of reminds me of my favorite stephen King novel – the Long Walk.

Nemesis is better than Insurrection in my view.

      • Phil K

Hunger Games also looks a lot like that Japanese film Battle Royale too

  • I really like how optimistic Dan is about his future education in this episode.

I’m not sure if I’ve seen this movie. Maybe I’ve just seen parts of it or something. The newest movie is good, but I think I still like the one with the whales the best. Lee’s thoughts about the newest movie should be interesting given how big of a Star Trek fan he is. I’m looking forward to the Star Trek marathon being over though.

    • I can’t remember saying anything about my education on the podcast!

Early onset dementia. i knew it would get me.

      • lol Everytime Lee would say “I’m not an astrological scientist” you’d say, “not YET”.

        • Kelly

The dementia is for sure setting in.

          • Dan

            What dementia? Who are you?

            • Lee

The complete and utter irony is that Dan wrote his email address wrong when replying so it came up as a new user.

  • About your comment about the planet of Remus not revolving.
It is probably like the moon that revolves at such a speed that the same face always faces Earth.

    • Dan

Ahhhh! That actually makes sense.Bravo sir, bravo.

      • SG-3

Yes, it is called tidal locking ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_locking ) and is actually remarkably common. Mind you, a planet that is tidally locked to the star it orbits, but is in the habitable orbit-zone, would most likely have no atmosphere to speak of as the intense heart of the star-facing side would burn it off!

        • SG-3

          Intense *heat* !!!

        • Lee

That’s what is so awesome about our listeners, even though we might not be astroscienceologists you guys more than make up for it!!
