This week Lee failed to do the one thing that was asked of him and that was to watch The Monster Squad. Dan managed to even having to forego sleep and calling in sick at work the next day so he could have a bit of shut eye. Lee on the other hand just got distracted by shiny objects as he is prone to do.
As a result there is no movie per se but the boys do call Arjan up out of the blue and hilarity ensues:
- They take questions from Twitter covering topics such as:
- Where the Wild Things Are
- Sandra Bullock
- What films we refused to watch the end of in anger or disgust
- Idiocracy
- Nightmare on Elm Street
- Tweets that are filled with innuendo
- Lee seems to talk about robot balls for ages
- What the Dutch think of Austin Powers: Goldmember
- How to insult people in Dutch using Jurassic Park
- Lee insults Dutch people
- Dan gets scared in pretty much every film possible
- What scared Lee when he was young and probably damaged him for life
- Comic book movies
- International rating systems
- and finally what the weather was like in the Netherlands
We would like to thank everyone on Twitter who took part:
Also remember we now have a competition running on who can actually pronounce Arjan Beens correctly so send us your mp3′s or voice message at dghughes28 on Skype – I have no idea what the prize is but I’m sure it will be reasonably cheap.
Next week… supposedly The Monster Squad.

For the record I would like to point out that I did not take the day off sick from work because I was tired.
Good grief man, my manager might read this!
@Dan, Which is why I didn’t mention your habit…
Decepticon balls indeed.
I actually enjoyed Transformers, especially number two as it basically laughable filth.
@Socrates, the best thing about the Transformers 2 DVD is that it keeps coffee cups from marking my coffee table.
The manuever in Bogus Journey is indeed called a Melvin, because it was administered to the front rather than the rear.
Monster Squad came out in Quebec with a G rating (no parental warnings).
When it was released in Ontario at the theatre, it was PG, and when it was released on video in 2007, it was 14A.
@MC, we would probably still refer to that as a wedgie here, Bogus Journey is the only place I’ve heard it referenced.
I probably agree with it getting a 14A – it is not out here in Australia so no idea what rating it would get here now (it was on VHS)
OK, take note because I’m only gonna write this once…
Don’t. Dis. The Ghost Rider!!!!
I’m mostly disappointed in you Lee, A.K.A Turncoat. You gave it a positive review on your Blog and then you go and succome to peer pressure. Not cool Lee.
:-p
@Ian, in my defence I was defending the film to some degree, I stand by my comments, it’s a film about a dude with a flaming skull for a head who rides around on a flaming bike. The movie captured that surprisingly well and I appreciate it for those reasons but it never really rises above that, not that I want it to.
So my official word on Ghost Rider is that it captures the essence of its source material and for that I appreciate it.
Actually I’m probably dissing the comics more than anything right now, I’ve been really under-whelmed with anything Ghost Rider related of late, I think the 90s were the golden age for the character. I think that of Iron Man as well though.
I am also looking forward to the Ghost Rider sequel which is a positive.
@Lee, I’m with you on the Goldan age comment. The latest GR title (which I think is discontinueing) took the whole concept in a direction I don’t like, and I REALLY tried to.
Disagree on the Iron Man comment though, I really like how the story’s been unfolding in the Noughties, especially his role in ‘Civil War’ and ‘Director of Shield’.
But I’ve gone off-topic.
@Ian, I’m generally becoming less of a fan of Marvel’s monthly titles anyway – they have become too weak with very little drama and excitement in those 22 pages. You don’t notice as much in the trades when they are collected.
@Ian, Really? I mean really?
Ghost Rider?
Really?
OK man, they are your brain cells. Numb them if you wish.
@Dan, Yes. Really.
I’m still deciding whether I’m too much of a “Stupid Person” to listen to the podcast any more… sniff… or maybe I just remove any mention of the fact I have six kids from my blog page! Hmmmm… decisions, decisions…
@SG-3, I’m surprised you even have time to listen with six kids. Blimey!
@SG-3, I am sure I don’t know what is going on here – did we pick on parents this week?!?
@SG-3, Actually I just worked out what you are talking about – that’s the plot to Idiocracy – that’s not our political position!!!

MidMoClub. It puts a smile on my dial on the walk to work, and a grin above my chin on the walk back home…
OK, that was Stupid! But it has helped keep me sane
For what it’s worth, we decided to have a final fourth child, and ended up with triplets!
OK, I’ve finished listening to you Monster Raving Loonies, and wisg to go on the reacord: I’ve got to agree that Wil Wheaton was treated very poorly in ST:Nemesis, and have to admit that I quite liked him in Next Gen. (Is admitting you actually don’t mind Wil Wheaton in ST:TNG like admitting you like ABBA?)
BTW, would you believe I had 10 copies of TMNT2 in my hands at work yesterday, and was laughing maniacally?!?
Errr. that’s WISH to go on record… We can fix that in ADR, right?
I fínally listened to the last 20 minutes..I might get a ‘modern’ mp3 player just for these podcasts so I don’t have to burn it on a cd. Awesome job editing it into a listenable conversation that cramps up my laughing muscles again.
Has anyone dared to send in a ‘you pronounce Arjan like ‘…..’ ‘? The whole podcast reminded me that I need to watch a crapload of films to keep up.
