Huge week this week for the club, big movie and our first competition (see below)!!
If this is your first time visiting the Midnight Movie Club then may I suggest that you check out the About Us page (remembering that those are ridiculously old photos and Lee no longer has a moustache… Dan does still walk around carrying butter knives like that though!?).
Highlights this week:
- Fair warning Lee says the F word three times (possibly four… maybe five… mmmm six?) and Dan says it once.
- The shortest synopsis yet!
- Dan brings up the soundtrack for a change.
- The icon of the Orca
- Lee and Dan’s favourite scenes.
- Dan loves Hooper, Lee loves Brody… lots of man love.
- Lee doesn’t care about Mythbusters.
- Dan doesn’t actually read shark or whale books.
- Frankly Lee and Dan are terrified of sharks.
- Alien and Jaws.
- Stargate SG1 and Jaws.
- Giant sharks versus hovercrafts.
- There is a lot of Jaws the game talk.

Next week the boys are going all country and watching Young Guns 2!

1) Are you not going to review Jaws 2, Jaws 3 and Jaws 4: The Revenge also? Slackers.
2) I can’t believe you have a link to buy Starship Troopers 2 and 3 on your page. Haz U no shame?
3) In 6th grade I had a friend named Andrew Chapman. His Dad works in movies. At the end of the school year we were all talking about what we were going to be doing that summer, and Andrew said his family were going to Martha’s Vineyard (an island off Massachusetts) where his Dad was going to be working on a film. We were like, “Sweet! summer at the beach!”. The next year, when Jaws came out, we were all like, “Holy shitballs, dude! Your Dad worked on JAWS!”

@JJ Daddy-O, holy shitballs indeed!!!! Actually that dates you as well as I realised that the film is older than I am
No we shall not be reviewing the sequels… at this stage.
@JJ Daddy-O, It’s tempting to have a go at Jaws 4, I must admit.
And your friends dad has worked on some pretty damn impressive movies. and Space Jam.
@Dan, I know, he was totally robbed of a Cinematography Oscar for Raging Bull in 1981. “Tess” won that year. Tess, WTF? “Ordinary People” won a bunch that year too, a movie I doubt anybody has watched since.
Mr Holland’s Opus is awesome, Dan. Possibly the first film I ever cried at as an adult.
On the score (which is awesome, btw)… take a listen to Dvorak’s 9th Symphony Movement 4. I always find it interesting that Williams borrows a lot of music.
@Jeff, I saw Holland’s Opus when I was a teenager so I would have been heartless at that stage
@Jeff, I did take a listen to that actually Jeff, and would have mentioned it in the podcast but the moment past before I could inject my sparkling knowledge.
And I’m glad it’s not just me with Mr Holland’s Opus
*damage control mode*
No one buy that Jaws game. It is horrible. Lee is trying to make you all suffer.
@MC, the game is not that bad, I thought it was quite inventive especially when you are trapped in the aquarium.
Try this for free:

@MC, Ok, I found that rather enjoyable. Especially taking out the helecopters
@Dan, I liked pulling down the plane with the Space Shuttle on it.
And just for you Lee:

@MC, Jimmy doesn’t appear to appreciate your directly linking?
I put a review on iTunes ages ago. Is that enough?
@Ian, That’s fine – as we said you’ll get an entry we just needed to know it because it’s harder for us to check that.
At the risk of providing “too much information”, but I’m sure there is a T-Shirt Slogan just screaming to be made out of this: I listened to the last 15 minutes of the Jaws Podcast in the bath! Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water!
On a side note, my first exposure to Jaws was in my early teens. One of the first video-hire stores had just opened up in the local shopping centre, and they had Jaws showing on the TV iside! I remember watching gob-smacked as this swimmer got dragged through the blood-soaked water in front of me!
The next time I saw it was at a Jaws-Themed night pool party; they had one of those clunky big rear-projection TVs near the side of the pool.
Sad really!
Finally got around to listening to this last night and this morning. Two things:
1) Lee, you have no idea how glad I was that you picked up your Scheider/Schneider mistake. I was about to have an aneurysm.
2) Just to top Dan’s ‘my mate was in a cafe with Spielberg’ story. In the 90′s, my brother was living with some Kiwis in LA, all of them working illegally. One of them worked in the gardens at Spielberg’s place. One day it was suggested that he probably shouldn’t come to work tomorrow. Because President Clinton was coming to visit.
Just got round to listening, well done fellas, a fine treatment of one of my favourites. And yes, you saved me the Scheider rant.
Will have to dig it out and check those credits as I’ve never seen Brody and Hooper make it back ashore.
Nice one Dan remembering the Spielberg in a cafe story. It was in the cafe at Tate Modern. I was on a first date and all. Gave us something to talk about at least. We saw no more megastar film directors on our folowing two dates and then it was no more.
Onwards and upwards, must catch up with the rest. Toodle pip.
