ID4 Independence Day (1996)

Posted in Action, Science Fiction by - March 31, 2010

Okay guys this one is a long one.

It’s a big file and it goes for about an hour and a half.

But we think it’s worth it ;)

Listen to us discuss the effect alien invasion would have on Con Air Blu-ray supplies, how no one ever cares if the nazi dies, ID4 alien prisoner of war rights violations and how the nuclear weapon ruined the alien’s lunch hour.

Oh and Frankenhooker is mentioned…

…and Lee does a Ghostbusters quote.

  • …..2.23 minutes of “nice” WAS a bit much…and whats this about voting for the sexiest podcaster? only “ladies” were mentioned….tut tut…very sexist…
you may well have a gay following !
(dont worry not me! at 47 I am too old)
anyhow VERY good podcast!but more could be made out of stripper heroine vivica Fox…….who seriously kicks some ass, saves her kid and her dog! (the saintly bobo)!

do you drink beer when you record this?
just wondered as it sounds like one of the conversations I have with best mate mike at the dog and partridge!

    • @John Gray, It’s generally around 10am in the uk when we record this, so beer isn’t really on the cards (I”m onto the vodka by then).

I’d have been a lot happier if Fox had let the dog die to be honest :)

  • As an American, I have to say that I immediately recognized the idiocy of “the line” and was momentarily embarrassed. So, sorry ’bout that. But I also found the line very humorous, which may or may not be appropriate, but that’s the way it is.

TOTALLY agree on Bill Pullman. Gah, he drove me nuts in that film. Totally not leadership material. Snot-faced little schmuck, who I can NOT buy as an ex-fighter pilot. Though, yeah, he did pull off that scene in the hospital.

That stupid dog… I hate that crap. I think the volcano movie you were thinking of was Dante’s Peak. Kill the freakin’ dog.

    • @Jeff, I think Bill Pullman’s zenith as an actor was when he played the violent, but very dumb boyfriend of Bette Midler in Ruthless People. If I am remembering this right, he is picking up some ransom money and is surrounded by cops and is acting completely idiotic, and one of the cops says something like “we could well be looking at the stupidest guy on earth, here…” or something to that effect. It’s all been downhill from there (1986).

  • Will Smith was in Bad Boys… which I think opened the door for him to be in ID4.

    • Lee

@MC, You are probably right actually, for some reason I never consider Bad Boys to be a hit movie. I’m sure it made money, especially considering the sequel.

      • @Lee, It cost 15 million to make and had a worldwide gross about 10X that.

      • @Lee, I said Bad boys. You can hear me int he background if you filter out Lee talking over me as usual.

        • @Dan, ugh, hate that movie, dumb, dumb, dumb. And worst of all, it has Tea Leoni in it. She is such a terrible and annoying actress, right up there with Shelly Duvall and Liza Minelli.

  • SG-3

I loved this film at the cinema, EVEN when we had to watch the first ten minutes of it all stretched on the screen the wrong way! The BOO’s from the audience finally alerted the projectionist that he hadn’t checked which anamorphic lens he had on the projector!

It’s funny, I just stumbled upon a bunch of those lenticular VHS cover inserts that Lee mentioned, stashed in the back of a cupboard! I scored them from work when the VHS was released. If anyone is interested in one, I’m happy to donate some- maybe as prizes on the podcast!

I also just read about strengthening rumours of ID4 2 & 3 being made, possibly filming back-to-back. http://bit.ly/9mZTeZ

Loved the show, but I’m not sure when Dan took the toilet break!
