Demolition Man (1993)

This week Lee and Dan visit the dystopian future of the Sylvester Stallone film Demolition Man and for once turn out a podcast that feels semi polished and professional. It may have more to do with Dan’s editing or perhaps Lee’s ban on hovercraft shopping for the 60 minutes or so it took to record.

Sandra Bullock wears tight pants in this and Dan is the sexist one

Starship Troopers 2 and 3

After the success of last week Lee, Dan and Arjan pressed ahead to watch the other movies in the Starship Troopers franchise.

Arjan “explains” what Starship Troopers 2 is about with his synopsis which runs in at about four minutes over the actual running time of the film.

All military decisions appear to be random.
Once again Dan injects medieval England into a conversation.
The acting is bad even by Arjan’s level.
Lee wistfully thinks about Survivor season 1 for some reason.

This week Lee failed to do the one thing that was asked of him and that was to watch The Monster Squad. Dan managed to even having to forego sleep and calling in sick at work the next day so he could have a bit of shut eye. Lee on the other hand just got distracted by shiny objects as he is prone to do.

As a result there is no movie per se but the boys do call Arjan up out of the blue and hilarity ensues:

This week the club shuns dancing and corner putting and returns to manly popcorn flicks… well we hoped anyway. There are a lot of guns in this and a lot walking around but there is also what feels like the longest fight scene ever!

I’m never quite sure what to say in these little introductions since we’ll be talking about the film in the podcast and don’t want to give anything away in a sad attempt to interest you enough to listen. Lee and Dan nickname one of the characters ‘Dead Eyes’ if that helps? They also completely don’t bother to learn anyone’s name in the film except the guy who has no name… ummm I might quit whilst I’m ahead.

This week is a little funny as we have already really done the Midnight Movie Club podcast on Sunday for the film Dirty Dancing but because we know you pine for us every Wednesday we thought we’d have a chat about movie things that irritate us.

Now full disclaimer, this was recorded amidst a lot of technical difficulties and then it was edited by Lee instead of Dan so the quality may be all over the place and there will be no fancy meta data much to the furious anger of Dan. But this is a very relaxed instalment this week.

Next week though will be different as we are watching John Carpenter’s They Live!

This week we watched Tremors 2 and some people have already asked why we didn’t watch the first one, well in true Midnight Movie Club fashion Dan saw Tremors 2 late one night and knew straight away that we should watch it for the club.

This week’s podcast was cursed, cursed as if we had built a giant house over the top of a sacred burial ground moved in, put our daughter in front of a big tv and lit up some reefer.

We recorded it twice because the first time my computer ate it.

The second time Dan’s computer ate 45 minutes of editing time he had done.

Dan hadn’t actually seen Tron right up until about half an hour before we recorded this so it’s interesting to hear his take on it with completely fresh eyes.

Honestly this week’s podcast reaches what I consider to be a new low.

Which is hard considering this is only its second week.

We’re unprofessional, we giggle at rude words that mean different things in other countries, I marginalise the Star Wars fandom, we stay completely off topic for at least 98% of the time.

It’s a shambles and I beg you not to be sucked in to listen.
