From Dusk Till Dawn

Yup this week Dan and Lee are stealing themselves a camper van, taking hostages and making for the border because this week they are watching the 1996 Robert Rodriguez horror romp From Dusk Till Dawn.  Starring George Clooney and (who wrote the screenplay) plus a whole host of Rodriguez and Tarantino regulars this film is a double sided coin that possibly can’t be considered horror simply because it didn’t keep Dan behind the couch for very long.

Now there is a strong language warning for this episode as it would have been essentially impossible to discuss this film in any other way.

A big thanks this week to CS for sharing his Three of the Best, you can check out his blog at Big thoughts from a small mind.

Next week on the podcast Lee and Dan are sticking with the vampire theme for their season finale and watching the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer film. There is also going to be a bunch of silliness.

Just finished listenning to this cast and I was healthily entertained. I really enjoy this film and can now confess to this since you’ve made it offically cool to like ;-)

I’m glad you’ve realized we are the arbitrator of coolness. You’ll be glad to know that your own cool rating has now increased

  • Ian

Oh, and I totally disagree with your views on Glee.

    • http://allthatcomeswithit.com Dan

Your coolness rating has now decreased.

I saw this film at the cinemas too, wish I had of gone in not knowing a thing about it but sadly I knew too much. Didn’t stop me loving it though. Been a while though I may have to watch it again soon.

George Clooney is usually super cool and charismatic in anything he does kinda like how Clint Eastwood was in the 60′s and 70′s.

As a minor triva note, Micahel Parks played Earl McGraw in this film, Kill Bill, Death Proof and Planet Terror.

Yeah, Clooney just oozes charisma. The bastard.

Thanks again for having me on the show guys! You did not out me at all, Dan. I use my real name in most situations so no worries there. I had thought about including Under Siege as one of the three but thought that it might be too obvious a choice. Hence why I went with Cliffhanger instead…

As for From Dusk Till Dawn, I find that over the years I have come to enjoy the vampire section far more than the criminals on the run part of the film. Many of the most memorable moments come in the second half of the film. While I enjoy Rodriguez’s films, I must admit that I prefer the second half of Grindhouse, Death Proof, far more than his Planet Terror segment.

That’s Lee – always going with the obvious choices :)

I think that the vampire section of the Dusk Till Dawn movie is just so much more faster paced than the criminal section that you end up just waiting for it to happen. There’s nothing wrong with slow paced movies of course, but when a switch is made from slow to fast it just exaggerates the plodding nature.

I’ve yet to see Grindhouse actually.

Oh and quite an inventive ’3 of the Best’ this week I may have to revise my concept now ;)

    • http://allthatcomeswithit.com Dan

Yes, quite possibly one of the best concepts we’ve had so far.

Nice one. In a departure from my usual fare, I was dragged to see this in the theater, and I remember being surprised that it was such a fun ride. I don’t think it’s one I would revisit very often, but I could probably enjoy another viewing by now.

You’ve also just about gotten me to watch Community again. I saw an episode or two, and it was funny, but it didn’t make it to “must watch” status. Then again, I think sitcoms in our house have fallen victim to my wife’s disdain for straight comedy (which I don’t share, but I also don’t so much enjoy watching TV series alone).

    • http://allthatcomeswithit.com Dan

Disdain for straight comedy? Is it Will and Grace or nothing in your house then?

      • http://www.caddicks.com/blog Jeff

        lol… nicely done.

You set ‘em up, I’ll knock ‘em in.
