Dirty Dancing (1987) special Valentine podcast

Posted in Musicals/Dance by - February 14, 2010

Personal thoughts on the film aside but frankly I think that is the worst trailer we’ve featured so far.  Yes this week is special as Dan and Lee have decided to honour Valentine’s Day by watching the one film that fills so many manly men with fear and dread.

Dirty Dancing.

Directed by Emile Ardolinio

Starring: Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Jerry Orbach, Cynthia Rhodes

It was either that or Grease.

Lessor of two evils I guess.

There will still be another podcast on Wednesday but won’t be quite so long.

Remember to check out the Facebook page for some never before seen behind the scenes photos… well one.  Hey you should add your own photos of you listening to the podcast!!!

  • I’ve never seen dirty dancing nor have any intention too either. It just never appealled to me. Now “Sleepless in Seattle” that’s a good chick flick.

    • Lee

@Jane, I do like Sleepless in Seattle but over the years every time I’ve seen it I’ve liked it less, I don’t know if it holds up as well as When Harry Met Sally.

Dirty Dancing is what it is, if you are vaguely interested then it will do what you hope for and if you’ve got no interest whatsoever then best not to bother.

  • If David Lynch had directed Dirty Dancing:

    • Lee

@MC, wow that footage really suits Lynch’s style.

  • could I make a request?
could you review a real class act from the 80s?

WORKING GIRL with the once beautiful Melanie Griffith
    just review the hairstyles!

    • Lee

@john gray, shhhhh not too loud my wife has been hounding me on seeing that film for years!!!

I’m happy enough to add that to the list, I will add that it’s a long list though ;)

  • ps…..by reviewing this movie , you keep the gay readership happy!!!

    • @john gray, that’s interesting, for some reason I never had this down as a “gay movie”. I suppose I would automatically think of the Sound of Music as a stereotypical film that would be popular with a gay audience.

      • dan, dan, dan,dan……

        nuns are so seventies!!!
        no! gay men love
        POWERFUL WOMEN,
        A RAGS TO RICHES STORY,
        SIGOURNEY WEAVER
        BIG HAIR
        NEW YORK
        A SASSY BEST FRIEND…

        …..only a small stereotype there!!!

        @Dan,

  • You two are such boys!

Very funny, and nice shoehorning in of the word Bru-haha (or however you spell it).

    :D

    • Lee

@Insomniac Mummy, I don’t even recall the word being used – man I hoped I used it, it sounds like something I’d say :)

  • I have never seen Dirty Dancing, but now I want to see a 2-3 minute synopsis of the best parts. I’m not sure why, and I feel a little dirty for saying it, so thanks for causing that.

On the Podcast Dance – what you need is for everyone to submit videos of themselves doing the Podcast Dance, so you can edit them all together into a single video. That would be an instant hit. Yeah. That’s the ticket.

    • Lee

@Jeff, I would LOVE it if everyone submitted podcasting dances to us!!! I can’t stress this enough LOVE!!!!

      Come on people!!!

  • I forgot to comment this earlier, if you are unfamiliar with the Catskills and what used to be called the “Borscht Belt” and the various resorts, camps and bungalow colonies, wikipedia has a pretty good entry:

@JJ Daddy-O, thanks for the link!

  • In this episode you asked any female listeners how they’d feel about a guy that busted his window out for you to keep you out of the rain.

Well, I’d think he was pretty insane actually. A tax paying citizen of crazy land. Now, if we were running away from a tsunami or lava flow or something that’d be different, but for rain? Yeah, that’d be insane.

I was never too into Dirty Dancing. It was an okay movie, and The Swaze is very man pretty in this movie, but I was never that into chick flicks. But you can see nearly naked Swazey action in The Bouncer, plus see people get beat up, so that’s much better for a swazey fix. lol

    • Lee

I feel like we missed an opportunity to use the term “man pretty” now!!! Thanks for the feedback Kasey – I’m glad we’ve got the glass smashing sorted ;)
