Next week we’re watching one of Dan’s favourite films Zulu (Lee is sceptical having never seen the film)

While Die Harder isn’t my favorite movie from the franchise, it did inspire one of my most beloved exchanges in film.
John McClane: Guess I was wrong about you. You’re not such an asshole after all.
Grant: Oh, you were right. I’m just your kind of asshole.
But seriously, I thought With a Vengeance was the more enjoyable film of the two.
And John Travolta wouldn’t like Dan anyway. Remember those Space Church types take a dim view of people in Dan’s profession.
@MC, I forgot about that. Yes, I have the feeling he wouldn’t approve. And he’d tell me so whilst smoking a cigarette in an incredibly irritating manner.
@Dan, well, that’s his bread and butter really.
You. Forgot. About. Me!!! (Said in best William Shatner voice!) The Coalition is broken!
Just kidding! Another great show… I now have to dig this one up. I loved the first film, and I’m afraid I therefore had high expectations of the second. When 2 disappointed I couldn’t bring myself to see With a Vengeance. Sounds like I should give it a chance.
And it finally clicked with me where I recognized the eBay segment music from – a blast from my childhood past, the Gallery Music from Tony Hart’s “Vision On”!
@SG-3, In our defence we record a week or so in advance, I know you’re mentioned in Wednesday’s podcast for your post last week
You should definitely take a look at Die Hard 3, I’d probably miss 4 if you can live without it.
Another great cast gents, but I don’t agree with Arnie and Sly being ahead of Bruce as an Action movie icon. I’d watch a Willis film first every time (don’t push me on Hudson Hawk though).
I love watching Arnie and Sly films as well but they use their muscles to hide their poor acting ability, where Bruce has nowhere to hide and doesn’t need to.
@Ian, I’m not trying to equate icon status with quality, though I would argue for some of Stallone’s performances. The Terminator and Rocky/Rambo are for a certain generation bigger icons than McClane. Of course Dirty Harry might even make it in the mix for an older generation as well.
I’d also argue the case for Hudson Hawk
@Lee, You can argue the case for Hudson Hawk all you like. You’ll still be wrong!
Yes, these ARE fight’n words. :-p
@Ian, Hudson hawk is quite possibly the most under rated films of all time. It is quite simply a classic of modern cinema.
@Dan, Love Hudson Hawk!
@Jeff, I have the majority of that film still memorized I think
@Dan,
Unbelievable!
Dan’s marketing campaign for MidMo… “Listen to the Midnight Movie Club! Just hold on through the first bit and then the rest doesn’t quite suck.”
As much as I see Lee’s points in “the fight,” I have to agree with Dan that this just doesn’t feel like a Die Hard movie. Good flick, but not Die Hard. I actually liked 4 better.
@Jeff, actually, often the begining parts are my favorite bits
@Dan, Okay, how about “If you can hang on through the middle bit, the rest is quite tolerable!”?
@Jeff, yup, that’ll do it.
