This week Lee and Dan visit the dystopian future of the Sylvester Stallone film Demolition Man and for once turn out a podcast that feels semi polished and professional. It may have more to do with Dan’s editing or perhaps Lee’s ban on hovercraft shopping for the 60 minutes or so it took to record.
The highlights:
- the most justifiably complex synopsis yet
- Sandra Bullock wears tight pants in this and Dan is the sexist one
- apologies for past sins (hovercrafts are mentioned)
- Lee has seen the future and is unimpressed
- Dan agrees.
- There is actually some intelligent discussion regarding futuristic settings
- Where the hell was Al Leong?!!
- There is a lot of discussion around some of the more sizeable plot holes
- Does the three sea shell joke still work?
- Hand towels can be icky…
- Dan talks fire and ice
A note from Lee…
There is some mention of a video in the podcast and unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances there is no video however it would have been hilarious and would have involved me making a cup of tea illustrating my apathy towards Demolition Man.
Regards
Lee

Next week Dan and Lee are watching The Neverending Story, cue the music…

Geez, that was kind of organized, on topic, and appropriately segmented. What the hell happened?!
I have a vague recollection of running across this film on TV in the last few months. It kept me for a couple of minutes, but can’t say it pulled more than that outta me. So, good call.
@Jeff, I got all professional on Lee’s arse!
I think we’re going to try to segment the podcast like that in the future. Did the music playing under the talking annoy anyone at all?
I can’t promise we’ll stay on topic though. That may be asking a little too much.
@Dan, the music doesn’t bother me. I did notice the “Linus and Lucy” theme probably more than I should, but that could be because I love it and it’s burned in my brain. I spent a little time trying to figure out why you picked that one instead of listening. Otherwise, though… sounded good.
*sigh*
Now I have those corny one liners back in my cerebral cortex.
You know that a lynching offence, right?
@Jayne, I thought these days they had forgone lynching and instigated cryogenic freezing for stuff like that?
Dan, where was the witty intro of Lee? I told you how much I like those
Apart from that let-down, this was a really well put together review and made me think about views in this film. That being said though, please bring back a hovercraft-style episode every now and then to keep things interesting.
I LOVED this film when it first came out and was planning on watching it again on the weekend. I don’t think I should now.
Dan, please please please rib Lee in the intro next time? please?
@Ian, It’s not a bad film, just not half as good as I’d thought it was going to be.
As for wandering off topic – I’m not sure we have any control over that kind of thing really. We are forces of nature – if the dice roll is that we stay on topic we will, if not then we will wreak chaos and confusion on all.
@Dan, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Futurama took place 1000 years in the future.
I’ve got to add my voice to the thousands(?!) who have missed the witty side-kick intro! It’s up there with the Two Ronnies “It’s goodbye from me” “- and it’s goodbye from him!”
However, in Lee’s defence I actually quite like the ebay segment.
And thanks for putting “The Neverending Story” song back in my head! Mind you, I’m looking forward to that review; I’m quite fond of the movie, and have to admit liking the soundtrack too!
@SG-3, witty! Did you hear that Lee? Witty!
Although damn you for siding with him about that damn ebay segment
