Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go… and not watch Jaws this week.
That’s right Lee said he didn’t feel like watching Jaws and Dan folded like a cheap cards table and so they decided a ramble in the Bronx (do you see what I did there?) was what was called for. If you follow the Facebook page or on Twitter you probably saw the call out for questions already. Well now behold the answers!!!
Listen as Lee and Dan talk:
buddy films
Hot Fuzz vs Shaun of the Dead
hovercrafts (really! there’s more!)
movies that they haven’t seen but are going to watch
Due to unforeseen circumstances (he couldn’t be bothered to watch the movie) Lee was absent from this podcast and dan was joined instead by Ian from Single Parent Dad and Justin from JJ Daddy-O
And also due to Dan’s complete and utter incompetency the “record” button wasn’t pressed during the hour long discussion of the film, and so all that remains is this sorry excuse for a podcast.
So this 11 minutes is all we have for you this week I’m afraid.
It’s Dan’s turn to fly solo this week as various scheduling problems meant that he and Lee were unable to meet up. If that weren’t bad enough he’s also roped in someone who is even more incompetent than him, Ian from the blog Single Parent Dad.
So instead of Lee and Dan’s unique and pithy insights into Highlander you have to sit through Ian and Dan’s incoherent blatherings about clone movies (that’s films that were released the at the same time and which, apparently accidentally, have virtually the same plot).
Ian and Dan discuss:
Bugs Life vs Antz
Turner and Hooch vs K9
Dantes Peak vs Volcano
Finding Nemo vs A Sharks Tale
Saving Private Ryan vs the Thin Red Line
Independence Day vs Mars Attacks
Madagascar vs The Wild
Armageddon vs Deep Impact
And make sure you stay tuned to the end to hear our special surprise guest.
It’s Lee here with a little bit of a departure from our regularly scheduled programming, if you’ve arrived on the home page looking for the latest podcast it’s the previous post.
Dan and I have been having a discussion regarding the level of swearing in the Midnight Movie Club and whilst Dan and I only do the podcast because it is neat to meet up online once a week and talk about a film that we’ve probably seen 100 times before we do care about what you the listeners think as well.
Now you may have read on Twitter that things did not go so well with The Monster Squad podcast. Mostly because the film serves as a reminder that we’re getting old and some films that we treasured as youth do not hold up particularly well and that’s disappointing and can top off an already less than remarkable week.
I only say this to put the podcast that you guys won’t get to hear until next week into context when I say that I use the F word a total of 47 times. Clearly this is too many times. I’m not effing Gordon Ramsey. But I was having a bad day and swearing enters my vocabulary when I’m ruffled.
So obviously as mentioned 47 times is going over the top but it did highlight for us a question we have and that is whether or not we should be a ‘clean’ podcast or not. Reality of the situation is that we both swear, but we are also able to conduct conversations in our day to day lives that don’t include swearing, so it’s more than possible.
My own opinion and I hope Dan will either add his to the end of this or in the comments is that one or two swear words are fine, it’s how I talk but it also means that you probably can’t listen to it around your kids. But with that said I’m also more than happy to be censored or bleeped out.
I guess what we’re looking for is a little feedback on the subject, so if you would be so kind please fill out the poll and maybe leave a comment around your own feelings on the subject – if you would like to drop us a private line that is fine too!

If you know someone who only listens to us on iTunes could you let them know about the poll!
This week Lee failed to do the one thing that was asked of him and that was to watch The Monster Squad. Dan managed to even having to forego sleep and calling in sick at work the next day so he could have a bit of shut eye. Lee on the other hand just got distracted by shiny objects as he is prone to do.
As a result there is no movie per se but the boys do call Arjan up out of the blue and hilarity ensues:
They take questions from Twitter covering topics such as:
Where the Wild Things Are
Sandra Bullock
What films we refused to watch the end of in anger or disgust
Idiocracy
Nightmare on Elm Street
Tweets that are filled with innuendo
Lee seems to talk about robot balls for ages
What the Dutch think of Austin Powers: Goldmember
How to insult people in Dutch using Jurassic Park
Lee insults Dutch people
Dan gets scared in pretty much every film possible
What scared Lee when he was young and probably damaged him for life
Comic book movies
International rating systems
and finally what the weather was like in the Netherlands
Also remember we now have a competition running on who can actually pronounce Arjan Beens correctly so send us your mp3′s or voice message at dghughes28 on Skype – I have no idea what the prize is but I’m sure it will be reasonably cheap.
In a sad desperate attempt to cash in on the Academy Awards we present our very shoddy review of the 1990 Academy Awards.
It’s probably our best work to date which is probably sad. Listen to hear Dan and Lee sing songs from The Little Mermaid, it’s actually worse than it sounds!
This week is a little funny as we have already really done the Midnight Movie Club podcast on Sunday for the film Dirty Dancing but because we know you pine for us every Wednesday we thought we’d have a chat about movie things that irritate us.
Now full disclaimer, this was recorded amidst a lot of technical difficulties and then it was edited by Lee instead of Dan so the quality may be all over the place and there will be no fancy meta data much to the furious anger of Dan. But this is a very relaxed instalment this week.
Because it’s Christmas and because some of you just can’t get enough of Dan and Lee (mainly Dan and Lee) we are bringing you a bonus podcast to supplement the Midnight Movie Club!
Eventually it will be on iTunes – hopefully by the time you read this and we’ll make sure to let you know where you can subscribe so you don’t miss a minute!!
For now Merry Christmas and enjoy our continued ramblings:
The music track featured within the podcast is An Orange Groove by Raphael Pistachio. You can download the entire Scrooged soundtrack at Popdose (We’re not sure it’s entirely legal though).
You should be in bed, but you’re not. No, you’re working your way through the channels, bleary eyed and wondering how on earth there can be so much on without a single thing to watch.
But then you stumble across it.
A flash from your past. Just a glimpse at first, caught in your consciousness for mere seconds as your spasming remote finger whisks you off to channels new. You’ve overshot, and are now faced with a rather enthusiastic man trying to sell you a potato peeler. But all’s not lost. A quick bit of back-pedaling returns you to the sparkling jewel that captured your attention.
“Wow” you mutter under your breath “Gremlins 2! I haven’t seen this for years!”
Dan just finished editing next weeks podcast. That's two in the can, which allows the boys a nice weeks break.08:53:14 AM September 06, 2010from Facebook
