Caddyshack

CaddyshackOn this week’s podcast Lee and Dan are taking a look at the 1980 movie Caddyshack, starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray, and a bunch of other people that we’ve never heard of before – but one of them was in Tron.

This weeks three of the best was provided by Claire from Moon in the Gutter, and very good it was too (despite the fact she blatantly cheated). You can also find Claire on twitter as @merialc.

No podcast next week, and very possibly the week after that, as we take a little break to have a think about if/how we need to change the podcast at all due to Dan’s new job and Lee’s paucity of time. We will be back shortly however so stay tuned.

Anyhow, here’s this weeks podcast:

If you have any comments, suggestions, or feedback on the podcast in general, and what you would like to see/not to see going forward then mention them in the comments. I should point out though – we know you don’t like the Star Trek bit (and it’s likely not to return).

    First!

    No other comments?!

    Here’s another comment. Happy now?

My thoughts on how you can continue MidMoClub within your busy, evolving lives:

    1. Wind back the frequency to Monthly

    2. Just focus on review movies
2.1 that suggestion hurt, as I really like the ‘Week in Geek’ section, so:

    3. Start a spin-off Podcast called Lee and Dan’s Week in Geek.

    4. theDoctorWhoPodcast has 3 hosts, but they don’t all do every single episode. Maybe bring in some more ‘regulars’ and chop and change the lineup.

I’ll post some more suggestions if/when I think of them.

Those are some good ones Ian, and pretty much the options we came up with.

We’re goinjg to try a slightly modified version of the podcast for the next few weeks to see if it fits. There won’t be a lot of difference and there will still be a film review and week in geekage going on – but the boundries between everythign will eb a little more blurred i think.

In other words – we still ahve no idea what to do, but we’re just going to see how it goes.

That sounds like a plan to me. KBO Dan and Lee ;-)

I enjoyed this Dan, good job.

I’ll be sure to plug the podcast on my blog tomorrow morning.

    Keep up the good work.

Cheers Sam, much appreciated. The bit I appreciated most of course is that you congratulated me on the podcast, but didn’t mention Lee at all. I like to keep that upstart in his place.

Ok, the first thing I need to say is please, please, please don’t watch Caddyshack 2. Don’t do that to yourself. That is the first movie I ever paid for that I seriously considered walking out of and demanding my money back. Utter crap.

So, I also think you’ve identified correctly that it’s a thinly linked stream of skits, and the Danny storyline is boring and useless, but I do think the skits and the little things they throw in are worth the entry. For example, at the club where gambling is illegal, EVERYONE is gambling at one point or another, about pretty much anything. They even bet on whether “the Smails kid eats it”.

It is one of the most quotable movies in existence – possibly because the “skits” can be represented so easily by the quotes. There’s really no need to have seen the whole movie to get them. Some of the best lines are the throwaways…
    - Smails kid: I want a hamburger, no a cheeseburger, I want a milkshake, I…
    - Judge Smails: You’ll get nothing, and like it!

I quote that ALL the time.

Murray and Chase with the pool vs. pond speech… another constant in my life.

    I could obviously go on.

As a coherent current film… it wouldn’t play – but as a series of skits, as it really is, pure, gleaming, gold.

“you’ll get nothing, and like it!” – perhaps that should be the motto of the Midmoclub :)

    Lee who ;D ?

Why not just do a biweekly podcast instead of a weekly? I always figured weekly was a heck of a lot of work. You could also get rid of the week in geek parts and the star trek segment to save time on editing. Those segments are fun, but losing those is better than not getting a show at all.
