Battle Beyond the Stars

Posted in Podcast, Science Fiction by - January 18, 2012

In order to ease everyone back into the brave new non-Star Trek Midnight Movie Club world Lee and Dan decided to stay in the realm of science fiction.

Dan regrets this decision.

Will we have a new sulk on our hands to rival the likes of Wrath of Khan or The Sure Thing?

Maybe. (Actually I already know the answer as I have already heard the podcast).

As well as Battle Beyond the Stars Dan and Lee discus the greatness (perhaps this is stretching the definition) of the following trailers:

The boys also discuss their thoughts on the new DC logo, the fact that The Avengers is going to be told from Captain America’s perspective, which movie makes Lee cry every time, lack of Benji on the podcast and foreign films.

Next week it’s the big 100 episode as we’re watching Big Trouble in Little China.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY!!!!!

Wooo! Good to see Yor Hunter from the Future getting some love… I think. I won’t get a chance to listen to this until morning.

    • Lee

yeah I’d probably listen to the podcast before dancing any jigs…

haha yeah I thought as much

Oi!… just so you know I didn’t try to name my son Yor, but I try to Oron (Aquaman’s birth name) and Han ;)

    • Lee

I know you’re thinking about procreating more just to use the Yor name now Phil. (A clever middle name perhaps??)

  • Oh, wait… I thought this was Beyond the Battle of the Network Stars. I could get behind that.

I guess I’ll still listen to the podcast.

Star Wars was based in part on another Akira Kurosawa film called The Hidden Fortress.

    • Lee

Yes that’s the one, knew it was something like that.

Great show guys! I didn’t watch the movie but suffice to say I don’t need to after your reviews. I’ll definitely watch Big Trouble in Little China for next week.

    • Lee

I still endorse this film for a good ol Sunday afternoon or a sick day when you’re stuck on the couch. Big Trouble in Little China should be a lot of fun, or of course Dan will ruin it all by being a hater.

      • I have my ruining hat and my hater stick all ready and prepared.

Hmmm, I’ve always considered that ship to be a bit of a Rorschach test. I’ve seen it described as boobs, the other lady parts and also a set of balls. I think the starship design world calls this “having something for everyone”.

    • Dan

I personally saw a dead dog with it’s skull cracked open, but didn’t want to say anything in case others thought me odd.

    • Lee

I think the first time someone ever pointed the ship out to me they referred to it as balls so that kind of stuck with me. Upon closer inspection I side with the boobs camp.

  • I actually liked Real Steel. I thought it was a really fun/different movie. Like an adult version of pokemon or something.

I’m still catching up on the podcast, so you might have watched this already. If you haven’t I’d like to recomend watching the trailer Brave for your new trailer segment.

I vaguely think I’ve seen this movie. Like a half remembered nightmare.

I knew women could love Real Steel…
